A shared ritual of voice, sand and moonlight: One evening in late summer, a group of makers, dreamers and singers were assembled at the Shared Space artist residency, in Pentwater, MI. Shimmery costumes were assembled out of sail cloth and an old prom dress, lyric booklets were handed out, and bodies piled into vehicles. We made the drive out to the Silver Hill dunes. At midnight of the full moon in August, an improvised moon ritual was enacted. Starting with a harmonized hum, and moving into "Full Moon Outside my Window," a simple and haunting Appalachian round. The event was experienced only by those participating, and a few unsuspecting park wardens.
