Pata-Sucro-Cogmo-Nition: An impossible solution to an absurd premise.
" Is it possible to exist in more than one place at a time? The sugar brain has been constructed as a surrogate to my own, and will take the place of my physical body, when I am gone."
Inspired by the consideration of mobility and life changes: Indecision prompted consideration into the (im)possibility of existing in multiple places, at any single moment in time. When used in cooking, sugar inhibits the growth of bacteria and can thus be used as a preservative. This physical attribute is what initially prompted the decision to explore sugar as an artistic medium.
Pata-Sucro-Cogmo-Nition is a term invented to explore the absurd hypothetical potential of sugar as an information and experience retaining substance. The prefix Pata- comes from the term Pataphysics, a philosophy and parody theory invented by the absurdist, Alfred Jarry. Pataphysics is dedicated to the study of what lies beyond the realm of metaphysics and is the science of imaginary solutions. In Pataphysics every event in the universe is accepted as an extraordinary event. The acceptance of all events as extraordinary comes only with attentive observation of the ordinary. Attentive observation of the inter-connectivity of life-events, emphasized the overall extra-ordinariness of the everyday. The work was a physical manifestation of a satirical analysis of recent surrounding environment.
While the notion of existing in two places at once remains a physical impossibility, consideration of the digital self calls for re-evaluation. Increasing dependency and use of the internet has largely eliminated the importance of the physical location of it’s users. If an individual exists only in relation to it’s surroundings, and to other individuals within this environment, the digital and physical selves assume dual identities.
